Cambodia calls for ceasefire: Thailand border fighting to stop: UN envoy

Cambodia has called for an immediate ceasefire amid fresh fighting with Thailand along their disputed border, its envoy told the United Nations, according to news agency AFP. Thailand, had warned that the situation “could potentially develop into a war” if not brought under control. Clashes broke out near the centuries-old Preah Vihear and Prasat Ta Muen Thom temples, with both sides exchanging rockets and artillery fire for a second straight day. The ancient temples, linked to the Khmer empire, remain a sensitive point in a long-running territorial dispute between the two neighbours.

India's UPI payments, handling 640 million daily transactions, surpassing Visa. UPI powers 85% of India's digital payments and 60% globally, now live in seven countries. India UPI Payments: India’s real-time payment technology UPI (Unified Payment Interface) has emerged as the global leader surpassing Visa, according to a recent note by the International Monetary Fund titled Growing Retail Digital Payments: The Value of Interoperability. The IMF report states that UPI has powered 85 per cent of India’s digital payments and nearly 60 per cent globally. UPI is handling 640+ million transactions daily, head of Visa, the report stated, adding that Rs 24 lakh crore processed via 18.39 billion UPI transactions in June 2025. The transaction percentage rose 32 per cent YOY compared to the same month last year at 13.88 billion.

Trump says India and US very close to finalising trade deal

  Washington and Delhi are "very close" to finalising a trade deal, US President Donald Trump has said, as high-level talks between the two sides continue. "We're very close to a deal with India where they open it [the market] up," Trump told reporters at the White house on Wednesday. Later in the day, he reiterated that the deal with India was "very close" when asked about upcoming trade agreements in an interview with broadcaster Real America's Voice. India and the US have been locked in intense negotiations over the past few months, aiming to reach an agreement before steep tariffs kick in. Trump had first announced 27% tariffs on Indian goods in 2 April as part of a wider trade policy move. While the tariffs were initially paused until 9 July, the US later extended the deadline to 1 August. An Indian delegation is in the US this week for  discussions  on the agreement, Reuters reported, citing sources in the Indian government. Last month, a tea...
