A US strike in Syria kills a top member of a militant organization associated with Al-Qaeda.

A US attack in northwest Syria killed Muhammad Salah al-Za'bir, a senior member of Hurras al-Din, a militant organization connected with Al-Qaeda.

In an airstrike in northwest Syria on Thursday, the US military claimed to have killed Muhammad Salah al-Za'bir, a prominent member of a militant organization connected with Al-Qaeda.

According to a statement from the US Central Command, the airstrike was a part of a larger campaign to dismantle and weaken extremist organizations in the area.Hurras al-Din was the faction to which Muhammad Salah al-Za'bir belonged.

Months after the Israel Defense Forces declaration, the Palestinian militant group Hamas revealed Thursday that its military leader Mohammed Deif had been killed in an Israeli strike, according to the Times of Israel.

In a video statement, Hamas spokesperson Abu Obeida confirmed Dief's passing.

According to the Times of Israel, Abu Obeida also confirmed the deaths of Ahmed Ghandour, commander of the Northern Gaza Brigade; Rafa'a Salameh, commander of the Khan Younis Brigade; Ayman Nofal, commander of the Central Gaza Brigade; Ghazi Abu Tama'a, head of combat support; and Raad Thabet, chief of staff of the military wing.

In August of last year, Israel declared that Mohammed Dief had been killed in an airstrike in the Khan Younis region on July 13.

IDF had stated in a statement on X that "We can now confirm: Mohammed Deif was eliminated."

Hamas struck southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing at than 1,200 people—mostly civilians—and kidnapping more than 200 more. Israel's counteroffensive against Hamas in Gaza has also resulted in the deaths of around 46,000 Palestinians.

Earlier this month, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza, which has included multiple rounds of hostage and prisoner exchanges.

In return for 110 Israeli-held Palestinian prisoners, Hamas freed eight hostages Thursday, including three dual German-Israeli nationals and five Thai farm laborers.

This was the third round of talks in the two-week-old ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
