Israeli PM Netanyahu and President Biden talk about a truce and hostage agreement: Report

Jake Sullivan, Biden's national security adviser, stated on Sunday that a deal was "very, very close" between the parties.

According to news agency Reuters, US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed a ceasefire and hostage-release agreement in Gaza on Sunday.

Biden, who is scheduled to leave office on January 20, spoke with Netanyahu over the phone to hear the latest developments in the truce being brokered in Doha and to hear the conditions established by the Israeli delegation.

Jake Sullivan, Biden's national security adviser, said earlier on Sunday that they were "very close" to reaching an agreement, but that nothing had been finalized as of yet since Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist group, was still "intransigent," according to CNN.
Sullivan stated, "We are not, by any means, putting this aside and we are still committed to using every day we have in office to get this done."

Additionally, Sullivan attested that departing President Biden had been receiving frequent updates on the Doha negotiations.

JD Vance, the vice president-elect of the Trump administration and Israel, stated on Saturday on Fox News that an agreement for the release of US hostages might be unveiled in the final days of the Biden administration.

Echoing President-elect Donald Trump's remarks about increasing aggressiveness against Hamas, he continued, "Regardless of when that deal is struck, it will be because people are terrified that there are going to be consequences for Hamas."

The soon-to-be president Donald Trump has promised to bring about peace in the Middle East, but no concrete plan has been made public.

Steve Witkoff, Trump's new Middle East ambassador, has also participated in the Doha talks between Israel and Hamas, which are being mediated by the US, Egypt, and Qatar.
