France and India reach a consensus on Indian Ocean maritime security.
In other news, France and India have decided to investigate ways to address challenges to maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) through coordinated surveillance. Additionally, the two nations agreed to assist one another in marine security initiatives.
Following the recent 7th India-France maritime cooperation dialogue, MEA said in a statement that "both sides agreed to strengthen existing mechanisms of cooperation such as implementation of the agreed framework of exchange of information through enhanced information exchange between Information Fusion Center-Indian Ocean Region, Gurugram and Regional Coordination Operations Center, Seychelles and Regional Maritime Information Fusion Center, Madagascar in the IOR."
S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, was present for the inaugural Quad ministerial of the Donald Trump administration on Tuesday. Shortly after the meeting, he had his first bilateral meeting with newly appointed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which lasted almost an hour.
The first foreign minister to meet with Marco Rubio one-on-one was S Jaishankar.
Foreign ministers Takeshi Iwaya of Japan and Penny Wong of Australia also attended the Quad conference.
The four nations that make up Quad are committed to preserving law and order and peace in the Indo-Pacific area.
"Took part in a fruitful Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Washington, DC, today." After the meeting, Jaishankar said on X, "Thank you to @secrubio for hosting us and to FMs @SenatorWong and Takeshi Iwaya for their participation."
Jaishankar pointed out that the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting took place within hours of the inauguration of the Donald Trump administration. According to him, this underlined the priority the group has in the foreign policy of its member states. He also said the group's wide-ranging discussions addressed different dimensions of ensuring a free, open, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
“Agreed on the importance of thinking bigger, deepening the agenda and intensifying our collaboration. The meeting today sends a clear message that in an uncertain and volatile world, the Quad will continue to be a force for global good,” the EAM added.At the conclusion of the one-hour meeting, the four Quad leaders posed for a group photo at the State Department. They did not, however, accept any inquiries from the media.
Rubio told NBC News earlier in the day that the purpose of the meeting was to reiterate the value of collaborating with allies worldwide on issues that are significant to Americans and America.
Rubio and Jaishankar shook hands and grinned at the cameras during their picture session with a pooled press following their bilateral meeting following the Quad conference.

Bruce went on to say that Secretary Rubio also underlined the Trump Administration's intention to collaborate with India in order to promote economic connections and resolve issues pertaining to irregular migration during the discussion.
Jaishankar met with US National Security Advisor (NSA) Mike Waltz at the White House as well. Jaishankar is here at the US government's invitation to attend the presidential inauguration.
