In a Significant Policy Change, the US Supports Russia in the UN Vote on Ukraine
In the past, the US has supported resolutions that denounced Russia and favored Ukraine.

Russia was harshly criticized in the resolution, which had significantly less support than earlier ones on the three-year-old conflict. It requested a "de-escalation, an early cessation of hostilities and a peaceful resolution of the war against Ukraine, marked by enormous destruction and human suffering, including among the civilian population, in line with the Charter of the United Nations and international law".
After Trump's return, US-Ukraine relations deteriorate.
Since Donald Trump returned to the White House last month, ties between the United States and Ukraine have deteriorated.
He referred to Zelensky of Ukraine as a "dictator" last week, saying that is very unpopular. A day after US and Russian officials met in Saudi Arabia without Kyiv, he also urged him to "move fast" to end the war.
Trump referred to the Russia-Ukraine war as "senseless" and emphasized that it should never have happened after the US and Russian officials met in Saudi Arabia last Tuesday.
"Russia wants to do something. They want to stop the barbarianism that's going on over there. Every week, thousands of soldiers are being slain. Many Koreans have been killed, in addition to Russian and Ukrainian soldiers," he claimed.
Since Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized tens of thousands of troops to enter Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Washington has reportedly provided Kyiv with more than $60 billion in military aid.
In December, Zelensky said 43,000 Ukrainian troops and 1,98,000 Russian soldiers had been killed in the war. The UN estimates that about 12,500 civilians have lost their lives in Ukraine.
New Delhi: On Monday, the United States supported Russia in a draft resolution of the UN General Assembly that demanded a peaceful end to the conflict in Ukraine, an early suspension of hostilities, and a de-escalation of hostilities. In the midst of a growing verbal spat between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, Washington, which previously supported resolutions that praised Kyiv and denounced Moscow, changed its position.
The resolution 'Advancing a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine', presented by Ukraine and its European allies, was approved by the 193-member UN General Assembly with 93 votes in favor, 65 abstentions, and 18 votes against.
India did not cast a ballot, despite having advocated for a diplomatic and dialogue-based peaceful settlement of the dispute.
