Indian stock market: 11 changes over the weekend, including the Gift Nifty, the outcome of the Delhi election, and Trump tariffs

Indian stock market: Due to weak global market signals, Monday's opening of the local equity benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty 50, is anticipated to be lower.

As US President Donald Trump proposed reciprocal tariffs on numerous countries, Asian markets fell and the US stock market closed the week down, with the Dow Jones ending a three-week winning streak.

Investors will be keeping an eye on important stock market triggers this week, including the results of the 2025 Delhi Election, Q3 earnings, retail inflation data, the movement of foreign capital, and other significant global market indicators.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a 25 basis point repo rate drop on Friday, which caused the main indexes of the Indian stock market to close lower.

The Sensex dropped 197.97 points, or 0.25%, to close at 77,860.19, while the Nifty 50 settled 43.40 points, or 0.18%, lower at 23,559.95.

Investors saw nothing intriguing in the new RBI governor's remarks, and since the rate decrease did not come as a huge surprise, there was a consistent period of profit-taking in the banking, oil and gas, FMCG, and power companies. Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research) at Mehta Equities Ltd., stated that investors should exercise cautious due to the FIIs' persistent selling of domestic shares and the continuing earnings, which have been mixed to muted.

Key worldwide market indicators for the Sensex today are as follows:

Markets in Asia

Ahead of important economic data and the possibility of additional tariffs, Asian markets saw a decline in Monday's trading, mirroring a decline in US stock futures. Outside of Japan, MSCI's most comprehensive index of Asia-Pacific stocks fell 0.3%.

The Topix index and Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 both saw 0.41% declines. The Kosdaq fell 0.5% and the South Korean stock exchange's Kospi fell 0.58%. Futures for Hong Kong's Hang Seng index pointed to a little higher opening.
Present Nifty The Indian stock market indices had a rough start today as the Gift Nifty was trading at a discount of around 46 points from the previous closing of the Nifty futures, at the 23,569 level.

President Donald Trump's threat of reciprocal tariffs on other nations, along with poor consumer sentiment and employment data, caused the Wall Street US stock market to close lower on Friday.

The S&P 500 fell 57.58 points, or 0.95%, to 6,025.99, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 444.23 points, or 0.99%, to 44,303.40. At 19,523.40, the Nasdaq Composite ended the day 268.59 points, or 1.36%, lower.

The Dow Jones ended the week 0.54% lower, ending a three-week winning streak, as all three indices had weekly declines. The Nasdaq was down 0.53% and the S&P was down 0.24%.
