Beijing denies Donald Trump's vow to put "ADDITIONAL tariffs on China of 50%," saying that China will never accept it.
China's commerce ministry denounced the US tariffs as errors and pledged to oppose them. The ministry urged respectful dialogue after Trump threatened to impose a 50% tax unless China retracted its 34% duty. If the US moves forward, China vows to retaliate.

After President Donald Trump threatened to put extra 50% tariffs on imports from the second-largest economy in the world, China's commerce ministry announced on Tuesday that it will fight US tariffs "to the end."
According to Bloomberg, a ministry spokeswoman criticized the US action, calling it "a mistake on top of a mistake" that demonstrates America's propensity for using blackmail.
"This will never be accepted in China," the official said.
The representative went on to say, "China will fight it to the end if the US insists on going its own way."
A representative for China's commerce ministry urged the United States to resolve its differences with China through equal and respectful conversation.
Trump says that "more tariffs will be imposed."
If Beijing does not remove a 34% retaliatory levy on US exports, President Donald Trump has threatened to "impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%."
"The United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th, if China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long-term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025," Trump wrote on social media.
"All discussions with China regarding their requested meetings with us will be terminated," the president added.
"We'll start having talks right away with other nations that have also asked to meet," he continued.
In addition, China said it would "resolutely take countermeasures" to Trump's threat of a further 50% tariff.
