Nintendo's Switch 2 pre-order schedule gets disrupted by US tariff hikes, but the June 5 launch date remains scheduled.

A Nintendo spokesperson confirmed the delay on Friday, stating that the company needs more time to determine how these tariffs might affect costs and market conditions. However, there is some good news: the Switch 2 is still scheduled to launch in the US on June 5th, priced at $450 (nearly ₹38,435). Nintendo fans who were eager to lock in their Switch 2 pre-orders will have to wait a little longer.
The gaming giant has halted pre-orders, which were originally set for April 9th, due to concerns over new global tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump. As for when pre-orders will actually open, that is still up in the air.
Increases in US tariffs
The postponement follows Trump's announcement of significant new tariffs a few days earlier, including a huge 46% penalty on Vietnamese goods and a 24% tax on Japanese imports. These adjustments may have a big effect on Nintendo's plans because the business has been moving more of its production to Vietnam.
During an hour-long livestream on Wednesday, the Japanese gaming giant unveiled details about the console, along with an array of upcoming titles. Among them is Mario Kart World, the latest instalment in the beloved racing series, which will be available alongside the system’s launch. The new game will feature an impressive roster of 24 racers and introduce a free roam mode, allowing players to explore environments beyond the traditional racetracks.
What has changed
Among its new features, the Switch 2 makes it possible for gamers to use their controllers as a computer mouse in some games by flipping them over. Additionally, the console has a C button for GameChat, a recently created feature that lets users talk to friends using the microphone embedded into the device. Additionally, when playing, gamers can share their screen with other players, which improves the console's social features.
Nintendo has revealed a separately priced camera that will allow users to appear on screen while playing, simulating the streaming experience on websites like Twitch and YouTube, for those who want to participate in live streaming. Additionally, the Switch 2 will have a multiplayer feature that lets users play some games with other people online or locally, even if they don't have a copy of the game.
