In a "bittersweet decision," Karoline Leavitt resigns as White House press secretary; Trump refers to her as a "real leader."

Since Trump became office again in 2025, Karoline Leavitt has become the press secretary. Her second child was just born.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, the youngest person to hold the position, will step down later this month. Shortly after Trump's announcement, Leavitt said on social media that the move was a "bittersweet decision."

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, the youngest person to hold the position, will step down later this month. Her second child was just born.

For what reason is Karoline Leavitt departing?
Leavitt left because she wanted to spend more time with her family, according to both her and Trump's social media statements.

"I completely understand and respect Caroline Leavitt's decision to leave her position at the end of the month in order to spend more time with her lovely young children and family," Trump wrote.

Leavitt claimed that juggling parenthood and "one of the world's most demanding jobs" had been the most fulfilling and difficult time in her life.

"The truth is, ever since I returned to the White House following the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mother my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary," she continued.

Trump calls Karoline Leavitt a "real leader," but he did not specify who would succeed the prominent role. He stated in his own social media post that he "totally understands and respects" her decision to go, but he also implied that she will continue to be active in his social circle.

The president tweeted, "Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors and an influential voice within the Republican Party as we work to defy History and conclusively win the Midterm Elections."

He also referred to her as "one of his most trusted aides" and a "real leader," describing her as one of the greatest press secretaries in White House history.

"Since 2018, including our historic re-election campaign of 2024, Caroline has been a true leader in the White House and has done an incredible job fighting for Justice, Liberty, and Freedom," he said.

Concerning Karoline Leavitt
Leavitt revealed the birth of her second child, a daughter called Viviana, in May.

The baby was born a few days after she had to postpone her maternity leave due to a gunman's alleged assault on Trump's life during the White House correspondents' dinner.

When Leavitt assumed the position last year, she became the youngest person to hold the position of White House press secretary.
