U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on X that the ship "is no longer transiting to Iran in violation of the U.S. blockade" after the U.S. Navy MH-60 helicopter shot on and disabled the M/V Vela Nova "after the ship's civilian crew ignored repeated warnings from American forces."

Since restoring the port blockade on July 14, the United States has forcibly stopped a vessel three times in its months-long battle against Iran.

As of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, CENTCOM reported that it had rerouted 55 ships that attempted to circumvent the blockade and boarded two more.
