Updates on the battle in West Asia: The United States hits Iran again; explosions are reported in the south

According to U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, certain Israeli government officials attempted to sway American public opinion against a U.S. agreement to terminate the war with Iran.

Tehran threatened to strike infrastructure in the area on Thursday, July 16, 2026, if U.S. President Donald Trump carried out his threat to attack Iranian power plants and bridges.

In reaction to what they claimed was an American attack close to a children's cancer hospital in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iran's Revolutionary Guards stated they launched ballistic missiles against a U.S. airbase in Jordan.

A month after a preliminary agreement to halt the battle, which began in late February with huge U.S.-Israeli bombings on Iran, the longstanding rivals have resumed hostilities.

In order to guarantee "compliance" with the Iran blockade, US marines board ships.
As part of the resumed blockade of Iran's ports that started earlier this week, American soldiers boarded a ship in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, according to the US military.

In a statement on X, US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that US Marines boarded the M/T Wen Yao "to ensure full compliance with the ongoing US naval blockade."

An empty oil tanker that attempted to bypass the blockade was shot at and disabled by a US aircraft the day before.

The head of the IEA believes that if the Strait of Hormuz scenario does not improve in the coming weeks, the world should be concerned about energy security.
Fatih Birol, the chairman of the International Energy Agency, stated on Thursday that the world should be concerned about energy security if the United States and Iran do not work together to improve oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz in the near future.

"Oil security remains a crucial concern," Birol stated at a Council on Foreign Relations function. "If the situation does not improve in the coming weeks, we should be concerned, and I am concerned."

American strikes in Iran targeted railroad stations, bridges, and airports.
Iranian state media reported on Friday that two bridges in southern Iran near the Strait of Hormuz, an airport, and a train station in the port city of Bandar Abbas were all struck by deadly U.S. strikes overnight.

State media IRIB reported on Telegram that "three explosions were heard around the airport and at least one American enemy projectile hit Iranshahr airport" in the southeast.

The American enemy attacked the Bandar Abbas Railway Junction Station a short while ago. Two Iranians were hurt in the incident, according to this information, Mehr stated on Telegram.

Vance claims some Israeli officials tried to influence the US on the Iran deal.
In a podcast conversation with presenter Joe Rogan released on Wednesday, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that some Israeli government officials had attempted to sway American public opinion against an agreement by the United States to stop the conflict with Iran.

In a growing public split between the two nations, Vance, who many see as a future presidential candidate, had previously criticized Israeli government policy. Vance defended an agreement reached last month to end the war with Iran, which has drawn criticism from both Israel and the United States for failing to stop Iran's missile program and offering no clear way to dismantle its nuclear facilities while limiting Israel's ability to fight Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.
